September 2016

I am in a singles ward. Some of the women in the ward have children (either grown children or children who do not live with them). My visiting teachees do not have kids.  So I left a note that said, "The lesson this month is on parenting, which requires children, so . . . ."

Children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. (Psalms 127:3)

Anything fruity will do for a gift--fruit, juice, candy, gum, etc.

"Making and keeping covenants means choosing to bind ourselves to our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ." -Linda K. Burton

The gift is something binding--like dollar store rope.

February 2016

It looks like the theme this year is the Family Proclamation.  Hopefully that means I can come up with ideas quicker.  It's also going to be a little difficult for me to come up with quotes to go with each month--I may need a separate one for my mom's visiting teachees and one for mine, since mine are not married.

That said, I don't know what quote to put with this.  But I figured Valentine's Day went with marriage, so just talk to your sisters about how great marriage is and give them a love-themed gifty.

January 2016

For this one, I printed the Family Proclamation in 4"x6" size on vellum.  Then I bought a picture of Christ and cut it down to 4"x6" as well.  Then frame it with the proclamation in front of the picture.
The message that goes with this one is that no matter what your circumstances, you are a member of God's family.

Unlock your heart!

“The Savior has always shown unlimited capacity for compassion. . . . Let us open the door of our hearts, that He—the living example of true compassion—may enter.”
--Thomas S. Monson

Any key will work, but it'd be cool to get a key with a heart shape for the top.

"If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you."
~John 13: 14-15~

This is my way of washing your feet!

Forgiveness is no piece of cake,
but it’s important.

“Haven’t we all, at one time or another, meekly approached the mercy seat and pleaded for grace? . . . Allow Christ’s Atonement to change and heal your heart. Love one another. Forgive one another.”

- Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Try not to be impatient with your trials.

"Patience means active waiting and enduring. It means staying with something . . . even when the desires of our hearts are delayed. Patience is not simply enduring; it is enduring well!"
-Pres. Uchtdorf

"The power of His Atonement can erase the effects of sin in us. When we repent, His atoning grace justifies and cleanses us."
-D. Todd Christofferson

The gift is erasers.  You can get plain ones or ones with repentance-themed words at the dollar store.

January 2015

Our spiritual growth takes place as we draw close to God through obedience and invite the power of the Savior’s Atonement into our lives.

(I figured the pocket-sized New Testament is a good gift to start out the year when we're studying the New Testament.  And as a reminder to the modern world that print books still exist.)

November 2014

Note: My mom's ward selects their visiting teaching messages for May and November for them.  This month they chose something that wasn't even a conference talk.  So . . . good luck!  You're kind of on your own.  My visiting teaching companion and I decided to just each pick our favorite part of conference to talk about, and not have a gift to go with it.

Wherever you live, you have friends who are searching for the greater happiness you have found in living the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. . . .

As a covenant disciple of Jesus Christ, you are obligated to extend to others an opportunity to find increased happiness, especially to your friends and the members of your family. . . .

Christmastime turns our hearts to the Savior and to the joy His gospel has brought us. We show our gratitude to Him best as we offer that happiness to others. Gratitude is turned to joy as we offer names to missionaries and as we take the names of our ancestors to the temple. That evidence of our gratitude can make friends and families that endure forever.

-Henry B. Eyring

The gift is a pocket-sized Book of Mormon, either giftwrapped or wrapped with Christmas ribbon, ready for the recipient to give it as a Christmas gift.  Link to purchase pocket Book of Mormon

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
John 6: 35

Any gift involving bread will work--bread mix, loaf of bread, Twinkies, etc.

And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people. And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
-Alma 7: 11-12

You may be like a crumpled dollar bill, but you are still worth a full dollar because the Savior redeemed you.

The Savior is our shepherd, and you are one of His sheep.

"I am the good shepherd, and I know my sheep. . . . And I lay down my life for the sheep." -John 10: 14-15
