November 2014

Note: My mom's ward selects their visiting teaching messages for May and November for them.  This month they chose something that wasn't even a conference talk.  So . . . good luck!  You're kind of on your own.  My visiting teaching companion and I decided to just each pick our favorite part of conference to talk about, and not have a gift to go with it.

Wherever you live, you have friends who are searching for the greater happiness you have found in living the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. . . .

As a covenant disciple of Jesus Christ, you are obligated to extend to others an opportunity to find increased happiness, especially to your friends and the members of your family. . . .

Christmastime turns our hearts to the Savior and to the joy His gospel has brought us. We show our gratitude to Him best as we offer that happiness to others. Gratitude is turned to joy as we offer names to missionaries and as we take the names of our ancestors to the temple. That evidence of our gratitude can make friends and families that endure forever.

-Henry B. Eyring

The gift is a pocket-sized Book of Mormon, either giftwrapped or wrapped with Christmas ribbon, ready for the recipient to give it as a Christmas gift.  Link to purchase pocket Book of Mormon

Give a helping hand of service to those in need.
". . . [I]f ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth." -Moroni 7:46

Any gift involving hands will do.

The bishop can't do everything.  If you'd give him a hand, you'd be oh-so-sweet.

May 2012

Forget not to be patient with yourself.

Forget not the difference between a good sacrifice and a foolish sacrifice.

Forget not to be happy now.

Forget not the "why" of the gospel.

Forget not that the Lord loves you.

April 2012

If you CARROT all about the sisters you visit teach, follow these guidelines:

  • Pray daily for them.
  • Seek inspiration to know them.
  • Visit them regularly.
  • Stay in frequent contact.
  • Greet them at Church meetings.
  • Help them when they are in need.
  • Teach them the gospel.

May 2011

I tried to find Incredibles or Incredible Hulk toys, but couldn't find a thing!

(Note: I know it's pick-your-own month, but my mom's ward (I'm not a visiting teacher now) picks for them.)

April 2011

It's Easter season, so I got little bunnies.

Strengthening Families,
Providing Relief --
Some-bunny's got to do it!"

March 2011

"The priesthood and Relief Society work together to season the world."

I found these little salt and pepper shaker sets at Michaels for $1.

February 2011

My original intention for this one was to buy bottles of Act Restoring mouthwash and have a note that said, "When the church was RESTORED, the Relief Society got in on the ACT."  But that doesn't come in trial sizes and was too expensive to buy.

Since it's February, I got Valentine's candy and will put a note that says, "Because God loves us, he created the Relief Society when he restored the Gospel."

January 2011

For January's gift, I bought small calendars at Michael's (on clearance for 50 cents).  I will put a note that says all the visiting teaching messages for 2011 will be about the history of the Relief Society.

October 2010

Because of the special issue of the Ensign, our Relief Society presidency chose to have October's message be President Monson's Relief Society Conference talk on not judging.  I had anticipated a message relating to temples and was going to get a little ghost of some kind with a note about how there are spirits on the other side waiting for you to do their work.  When I saw what our message was, I thought about a "don't be a witch" gift, but figured that might not go over well.  And then it hit me--Windex!
“Why beholdest thou what you think is dirty laundry at your neighbor’s house but considerest not the soiled window in your own house?”
–Pres. Monson

November 2009

(November and May we are supposed to pick a Conference talk as our Visiting Teaching message. My ward picks for us.)
Reasons to be thankful for Relief Society (cause November is a thanking month): WARMTH of the SPIRIT:
JOY in SISTERHOOD:
STRENGTH in LEARNING:
Increase of FAITH (faith, mustard seed . . . get it?):
